Co-Founder of Nashville, with John Donelson.

An Indian Fighter, Army General, and Senator. Known as the "Father of Tennessee." Built the first "Brick" home in Nashville. Leader in establishment of the Watagua Settlement in East TN. In 1778, explored the Cumberland country; in 1779 led an expedition that founded Nashborough which later was named Nashville.

Even though the city of Memphis had not yet been officially founded, it was there that James died.
