Hi Keith,
According to my records, your Mary Ann Orr was the daughter of Jacob
Orr. He left a will in Morgan County, Alabama, Book OCR 7, page 148, which
mentions children: Emily, Mary, Martha I., Frances, Sarah A., Elizabeth,
Nancy, Alameda and Miselle. Of these, Emily married William W. Stovall,
Mary married Simeon W. Reeves, Martha I. married Abner C. Tatum, Frances
married her cousin, Phillip L. Orr, Elizabeth married Henry Stovall, Nancy
married a cousin, Simeon W. Orr. Nothing is known of Alameda and Miselle.
Jacob Orr, son of Christopher and Martha (Watkins) Orr, was born in
Wilkes County, Georgia. We do not have the date of his birth. He was
married in Wilkes County to Elizabeth Wise on February 4th, 1818 (First
Marriage Book, page 47).
The above is pretty much verbatim from a document on the Orr family
someone sent me years and years ago which I believe came from a public
library in Morgan County. The lady who sent me the Orr family records was
the same one who compiled the two volume cemetery book on Morgan County.
I assume you have the further ancestry of Christopher Orr back at
least a generation or two. I believe that is in the documents she sent me
but I'm not sure. If you need that let me know.
I don't have the ancestry of Elizabeth Wise, but she must have been
some relation to either Joseph or Sherwood Wise, the two early Wise
relatives in Wilkes County, both of whom were probably sons of James Wise
and Rebecca Massie of Wayne County, NC. The further ancestry of James and
Rebecca is at my Rootsweb site.
