Notes:
Asa Reeves, born 1730, executor of his fathers estate in 1774, living in 1789, when he sold his inherited land and moved to Fleming County, Kentucky.
Asa is listed in DAR Patriot Index- Centennial Edition. Dates of birth, death, and wife all match. He is listed as "PS VA (private soldier Virginia). This means of course that he fought in the revolutionary war.
"Asa Reeves, P.S., Virginia. A patriot of Virginia who fought in the Revolutionary War. He also gave 225 pounds of beef, four horses, and four wagons to the Continental Army of Virginia. His sons, William, Benjamin, and perhaps Eli also fought in the war. [b. abt 1739, Virginia, d. 1822, Kentucky. Son of George Reeves and Anne Dogget; husband of Sarah Lambert.]" - DAR Patriot Index, Centennial Edition, Part 3, at page 2430. "REEVES: Asa: b c 1739 VA d a 11-3-1823 KY m Sarah ---PS VA."
Asa was a patriot, furnishing supplies for the revolution, namely 225 lbs of beef, 4 horses, 4 wagons, and drivers for the same.
Asa's will reads: (Fleming County CLerk's Office, Flemingsburg, Kentucky Will Book C page 106-7
" In the name of God Amen. I Asa Reeves of Fleming County and the state of Kentucky being weak in body but sound and perfect mind and memory considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following that is to say. First it is my will and desire that all my debts be speedily and punctually paid. Item: I give and bequeath to WIlliam Reeves one hundred acres of land lying in Fleming County and state aforesaid being part of the track of land that I now live on that I give the said William Reeves the privilege of selling which he has done. Item: I give to Elias Reeves one hundred acres of land being part of the tract that I now live on which I give him the privilege to sell and he has sold it. Item: I give and bequeath to Jabes Reeves one hundred acres of land being part of the tract of land that I now live on which I have made a deed of gift which will show the boundaries of said land. Item: that I give and bequeath to Asa Reeves one hundred acres of land that I purchased from William Reeves and is part of that I now live on. Item: It is in My will and secure that the balance of the land be equally divided between George Reeves and Isaac Reeves and that said Isaac Reeves' part is to be laid off so as to include the buildings and Orchard where I now live. Item: all my remainder of my estate it is my will and desire that it be equally divided amongst my six daughters, Ann Doggett Crooke, Susannah Reeves, Sally Collingsworth Mahan, Elizabeth Jones, Margaret Burk, Jane Carter, and my adopted son Benjamin Reeves.
I appoint my son George Reeves Executor to this last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the seventh day of July one hundred and eight hundred and nineteen.
Asa X Reeves Seal
Mark
Sighed and sealed published and declared by the above named Asa Reeves to be his will and testament in the Presence of us:
James Blair, Thomas Summers, William W. Blair
At a court held for Fleming County on the third day of Nov., 1823.
This writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Asa Reeves, Sr. dec'd and was produced in court proven by the oaths of Thomas Summers and James Blair and ordered to be recorded which is done.
After quoting the will above, One writer continues:
One story has it that Asa Reeves owned 7000 acres in Fleming County. If this is an accurate figure, one is left with the feeling that none of the children except George and Isaac were held in particularly high regard by their father, although no doubt a court record is little indication of the peculiar configuration of the family loyalties, needs, and prior favors that determine the final disposition of one's earthly property. One is practically "Struck", however with the discovery of all land and buildings were given to the male heirs, While daughters inherited only Asa's other (and, one would presume, less valuable) possessions. One might have speculated of course, that women's inheritances were handled as part of a dowry tradition, except that the daughter Susannah, appears not to have married prior to Asa's death. Finally we note that despite the family's "adoption" of Benjamin, he appears to be less than a"full-fledged" male in the line of inheritance, and we can only guess as to his role in the family scheme of things.
Ralph Leonard's note on the preceding: All of that was very normal inheritance proceedings for the time. Males, oldest son in particular, got most of everything valuable. The ladies, and others not so closely related, get the rest. It would tell more about the family relationships by not following this practice, than by what we have here.
Marriage record for Susannah Reeves dated Nov. 6, 1790, in Fleming County, Kentucky.

Notes:
Your website is quite impressive. I plan to peruse the contents for additional
Reeves, etc. info to add to my work.
My father was Wayne Moore Crider, the son of Noble Warrum Crider and Ora Mae Moore.
I can provide quite a bit of information with regard to the descendants of Neville
Reeves b. 1808. Communicating with you has inspired me to spend more time on the
topic of those descendants. I have recently been concentrating on the residents of
Hancock County and surrounding counties in general.
Neville moved from Ohio to Rush County, Indiana in 1837 and then to Hancock County
in about 1840. He received a Land Patent for 80 acres in Hancock County on August
1, 1839. He served as a Justice of Peace and later a Hancock County Commissioner.
I send corrections or additional information when I feel that it is appropriate. I
always assume that all of us active in genealogy want to be corrected so that others
will not follow our mistakes. Please advise if you do not want corrections.
Best regards,
Steve
