The arms you mentioned are the arms of Reve of Bury St. Edmunds which
is very important as it gives us clear indication that he was descended
from this family.

A little history of the family.

Roger (Reve) of Melford 1442-1500 was married to Alice Freman 1446-1505
had two sons to my knowledge and a number of daughters.

His sons were Roger Reve of Bury St Edmunds ukn-1538 married to
Margaret Cooke ukn-1549 and John Reve alias Melford ukn-1540, the 33rd
and last Abbot of Bury St. Edmunds.

There also seems to be other Reve's with a link to this family from
this timeframe also ie Thomas Reve and Giles Reve, cousins most
probably.

Roger Reve of Bury had 3 sons to my knowledge John Reve of Fornhan St.
Genevieve who married Katherine (and had a least one son, John Reve the
younger of Fornham St. Genevieve) Edmund Reve, a priest who married and
had one daughter only and Edward Reve of Bury St. Edmunds who Married
Margaret Coo of Boxford and had a number of sons: Edward, Roger,
Clement, Robert (who married Alice Andrews) and William.

All this info is contained in the visitation of Suffolk 1561.

Roger Reve married to Alice Andrews and had 3rd son Roger Reve who
moved to London and was a Grocer and is shown as such on the Vis of
London 1633-35. Their 4th son was John Reve married to Julian daughter
of Gough and I beleive this may be the one you are looking for but more
proof is perhaps needed.

Suffolk Manorial Families contains the following information under the
pedigree of Suckling of Woodton.

Sir John Suckling married as his second wife Jane, daughter of John
Reve of London, by Mary sister of Roger Abdy.... and widow of Charles
Hawkins af St. Mary's London.

In order to work out who John Reeve of London was, and there are a few
contenders named John in the descendants of Roger Reve of Bury St.
Edmunds I think we may need a little more info. hope this is helpful.

There is a listing in The General Armory for the grant of a crest to
the above mentioned Reve arms in 1633 to Anthony Reve of Brede or
Breade, Sussex. Do you have any knowledge of this fellow?
