Death of Newark Veteran Followed Two Years' Ill Health
John T. Rogers, a highly esteemed resident of Newark, died at his home on Church street in that village at an early hour yesterday morning, at the age of 65 years. Deceased had been ill for the past
two years from a complication of diseases but had been able to be about the house until a few days ago. Deceased was bom at Union Springs, but removed about thirty years ago to Wayne County, where he had become well known and his friends were legion. He resided for nine years at Marion and the other years have been spent at Newark and in that vicinity. At the breaking out of the war he enlisted with Company II, Seventy-fifth New York Volunteer Infantry, and was choaen corporal of the regiment and was later promoted to sergeant. He served for three and a half years, being wounded at Port Hudson. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen. As a successful auctioneer he had acquired a reputation which extended throughout Wayne and adjoining counties. He was twice married, his first wife, Ann Westfall, dying in 1879. He is survived by a widow and three children: Morton, of Rochester: Mrs. F. J. Reeves, of East Palmyra, and and Mattie L., who lives at home, and also a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cook of Waterloo.

Costanzo, Madelyn M.
December 27, 2004 Madelyn M. Costanzo, 86, of Brighton Towers, went to be with the Lord on Monday. She retired as a special education teacher for the Syracuse City School District. Madelyn was an active member of the Brighton Towers Protestant Church. She was predeceased by two grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Carol Reeves of Syracuse, Pauline Keville of Syracuse, Dawn Cornett of Bernhards Bay, Penny Jemola of Liverpool; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to the Paul Reeves Jr. Memorial Fund, % Houghton College, One Willard Avenue, Houghton, NY 14744. Published in the Syracuse Post Standard on 12/28/2004.
