Death Info from Jack Williams on Prodigy.
Notes from an article published by Elizabeth Bacus from "History of Brown County, Ohio" published in 1992.
ELI AND SARAH (REDMOND) REEVES - Eli Reeves came to Ohio in 1803. He enumerated the males over 21, on horseback, from Cincinnati east in the counties of Clermont and Adams to help the federal government determine whether to open this territory for settlement. He and his wife, Sarah Redmond, settled in Byrd Township, which later became part of Brown County. Sarah was the daughter of Sarah Neville and Daniel Redmond.
Eli was born in Prince William County, Virginia in 1769. He was the son of Asa and Sarah Reeves, who left their home in Virginia and bought land in that part of Mason County which later became Fleming County, Kentucky. Asa, who was born in 1739 and died in 1822, was the son of George and Ann Doggett Reeves. George and Ann were born in Lancaster County, Virginia and bought land from Lord Fairfax in what became Prince William County in 1723.
Eli's brother William, who was a Revolutionary War veteran also came to Brown County. There may have been others in the family who settled in Brown County. There was a family legend which said that once a year a great ceremony was held when a famous Indian came to visit Eli. Eli and Sarah had 13 children. Iley married Frankie Stephenson, Daniel married Nancy Lang, Eli (wife unknown), Mary married _____ Steel, Sarah married James Steel, Asa married Rebecca Reed, Anna married Stephen Stephenson, John married Nancy Rankin, Neville married Anna Crawford, Benjamin married Elizabeth Crawford, Susannah married A.D. McNulty, Elijah married Jane Ross, and Jabez married Nancy Coe. Iley and Daniel were in the War of 1812.
When Eli died in 1825, his wife Sarah went with some of her children to Indiana, where she died, Feb. 21, 1848, and is buried in Henry County.
One of Eli's sons, John R. Reeves, lived in Indiana until 1866 and then followed his son, Benjamin, to Mercer County, MO. He and his wife Nancy, who was the daughter of Daniel and Eleanor Tongue Rankin, died in the 1870's and are buried in Ravanna, MO.
At a reunion in 1982 in Lucerne, MO, the descendants of the Reeves of Brown County talked about the family's roots in Ohio. Some of the present-day Reeves have visited Georgetown and were delighted to find many records of the family.
Eli Reeves was born 8 April 1769 in Prince William County, Virginia. He was the son of Asa Reeves and Sarah Lambert. Several sources claim that he served in the Revolutionary War. So far, I have not found any proof of this. He moved with his parents to Mason County, Kentucky around 1789. They lived in that part of Mason County which became a part of Fleming County when it was formed in 1798. On 28 January 1791, Eli married Sarah Ann "Sally" Redmon and together they raised 13 children. Eli and Sally moved their growing family across the Ohio River to what was then Adams County, Ohio. Eli again found that his county of residence had changed without his having moved when Brown County, Ohio was formed in 1818. When the Federal Government was trying to determine if they should open Ohio for settlement, it is said that Eli was one of the enumerators. He rode horseback around Clermont and Adams Counties from Cincinnati, east, and enumerated males over age 21. From this we know that he could read and write. Eli was one of the founders of Liberty Chapel which was part of the Deciples of Christ Church. According to his tombstone, Eli died 21 May 1825. As of 1963 his was the only readable headstone in a small unnamed cemetery in Bryd Township, Brown County, Ohio. After his death, Sally moved to Indiana with some of their children. She died 21 February 1848.
